LEADING MARKSMEN BRETT PITMAN SECURES HISTORIC PROMOTION | Brett Pitman's fifth goal in four games and a late Connell tap-in sealed promotion to League One.

The Cherries needed three points to guarantee League One football and went about there task with relish and gusto. With 1800 fans cheering the team on it only seemed a matter of time before the visitors would take the lead. It didn't take long for Pitman to strike at goal as his early effort flashed past the post. Pitman continued to be a threat as a great block, missed shot and a couple of wasted headers kept the scores level. However, it was Jalal who was the hero in the 36th minute, diving full length to keep out a goal-bound Pearson header. With half-time approaching the home defence handled inside the area but the referree waved away appeals for a penalty.

HALF TIME 0-0

The Cherries continued to create chances with Hollands and Fletcher both being denied early on. Pearce went even closer but veteran Burton keeper, Kevin Poole 46, made himself big and parried his shot. However, the Cherries were not to be denied and it was that familair Fletcher/Pitman combination that opened the scoring. A long Jalal kick was won by Fletcher which dropped to Pitman who does what he does best and volleyed past Poole to send the visiting fans into raptures. Pitman almost made it safe with 15 minutes to go, after chasing and winning the ball he looked set to score but his shot was wide of the mark. Jalal made a great save to keep the Cherries in front before Connell made the points, and promotion, safe with his first touch of the game.
