AFC Bournemouth travel to managerless Swansea to try and halt a run of two losses. Who will be celebrating the New Year with three points? We talk to Swans fan site SCFC2 to get the lowdown on the opposition, who they think will be the key players in the game and who will win. A big thanks to Jim at SCFC2 for his answers.
Q. After the sacking of Bob Bradley, Swansea are now on the lookout for their third manager in just over a year? Who do you want to get the job?
To be honest, we have gone from being a role model club to becoming a bit of a joke recently and so all I want is for us to get back to some of our core basics of playing good, attractive football and get back to what we were. I think it will be a younger dynamic coach and so Paul Clement seems to be the favourite and I would be happy with his appointment. He has a lot of experience and did well for Derby before they fired him when they were 5th!
Q. Eddie Howe said Swansea were a model to be followed when AFC Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League. How do you rate Howe as a manager?
You are doing everything we did when we first came into the Premier League and it is great to see. As for Eddie Howe then I think you have the brightest young manager in English football. Plays the game the right way, has personality and seems to get the respect of the players. The worry will be when a bigger club comes calling (which they will) and how you react from there! As you will have seen, we have found it a struggle to replace good managers!
Q. If you could have any AFC Bournemouth player from the current squad and add to the Swansea team, who would you take?
Many might say someone like Callum Wilson but I would say Simon Francis as he looks to lead you guys well and we are desperately in need of a leader at the back at the moment! You guys have a habit of producing ‘leader centre halves’ and this is our soft underbelly at the moment!
Q. Who do you think will be the key men for both Swansea and Bournemouth on Saturday?
There is no doubt that a fit Jack Wilshere is a great addition to any team. He does the simple things in midfield and makes good teams tick. We have to ensure that he and Harry Arter don’t run the game and provide service for your exciting forward line! I think Mo Barrow will be key for us as he was last year against you guys and we need him to have a good game along with Gylfi Siggurddsson who is at the heart of everything we do moving forward!
Q. Swansea have been struggling to pick up points. How do you think the team should set up to get a result against Bournemouth?
Being honest with you, we have to be looking at games like the game against you guys to be picking up points especially as we are at home. I think the key will be to match you in midfield and then attack on the flanks and provide service to Llorente who has been scoring some goals recently. Do this and we have a good chance. If we let you dictate play then I fear for us!
Q. Goals were in abundance in both fixtures last season. What do you think the score will be this time out?
Yes they were and with our defence at the moment its likely they will be goals again! I have a feeling that with King Curt in charge he will inspire us to a 3-2 win! I hope that you guys have an offday as you don’t need the points but we do!
