£9m man Benik Afobe has been scoring goals for fun and he only cost £1m more than Lewis Grabban (sorry we couldn’t resist).
Afobe has been talking to Match of the Day magazine and here’s what he had to say.
How does it feel to finally be playing in the Premier League?
“It feels good! It’s all happened really quickly. I played six months in the Championship this season and I’m hoping to be a Premier League player for a long time now!”
You’ve had six loan spells in your career. What did they teach you?
“To never give up and to grow up. Going away from home at 17 to live in Huddersfield was tough – it can make or break people, and it made me!”
Has your mate Dele Alli given you any advice about the top flight?
“He said to keep doing what I’ve been doing in the lower leagues. He’s younger than me, but he just said, ‘Do what you do and
you’ll be fine.’ So far I’ve done that!”
You’re an ex-Arsenal youth player – what did Wenger teach you?
“To express myself! He likes young players to go out and take players on – to try to shoot, to have confidence. He was big on that!”
Do you reckon Eddie Howe could be a future England manager?
“Yep, 100%! He’s only 38 – he’s got so many years ahead of him to improve. Managing your country is probably every English manager’s dream. I definitely think he’s got a massive chance in the future!”
And finally – what’s been the best moment in your career so far?
“My first goal for Bournemouth has got to be right up there! I’ve watched Match Of The Day every year for the past 16 years, so to see myself on there scoring and winning was a great feeling!”
