Premier League status, Eddie Howe as manager and the best beaches in England tantilisingly close. What’s not to like? Bournemouth is a destination that is hard to resist and it seems that hot prospect Mason Holgate is one player who is set to sample the delights of the South Coast.
According to the Sheffield Star, Barnsley have accepted a £500,000 bid for the 18-year-old defender, with the player having been given permission to speak to the Cherries towards the end of last week.
Barnsley boss Lee Johnson left Holgate out of the squad for the recent visit to Chesterfield. He is expected to leave him out for the next game as well.
Johnson said, “There’s no secret there’s been a lot of interest and speculation about Mason. He’s a very good player, but I think he needs to stay here and develop as a player”. He went on to say, “All young players have aspirations to play at the highest level – and I’m sure Mason is no different.”
