AFC BOURNEMOUTH 1 ROTHERHAM 0: Garry header makes it six points out of six

GARRY HEADER MAKES IT TWO OUT OF TWO

The first home game of the season saw the Cherries maintain their 100% record. A solitary goal on the stroke of half-time from defender Ryan Garry decided the match.
Promotion hopefuls Rotherham proved to be well-disciplined, well organised and at times physical. Something exemplified by Bradbury giving Ellison a hard time. Molesley went close with a diving header and the excellent Feeney provided a great cross for Pitman to head wide when it looked easier to score.

HALF-TIME 1-0

The second half saw Guyett step in for the injured Garry with the Cherries continuing to create numerous chances. Igoe shot wide, Pearce had a header just off target and a Pitman free-kick went the wrong side of the post. As the half wore on the visitors looked to step up their game and went close on several occasions. However, the Cherries contained the visitors comfortably to claim all three points.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Liam Feeney – completely bamboozled the opposition, especially in the first half and provided some great crosses.

Millers manager Mark Robins told the official Rotherham website:

“All credit to Bournemouth they stifled us and made it very difficult. At times they created confusion in our defence which it should have been very simple for us to deal with. We didn’t pass the ball as well as we know that we can do. We have to work at it and get it right. We have one or two new players in the side and we need to make sure that they gel a little better and quicker.”

He added: “We didn’t create enough and stood off them a little too much. They would have expected us to come today as challengers for promotion and they gave us a lot of respect and now they will have come away thinking that they have a chance of promotion. That is something that we are going to have to live with this season.”
