AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 TORQUAY 1: 95th minute penalty gifts Cherries all three points

FRANTIC FINALE SEES CHERRIES GRAB AN UNLIKELY THREE POINTS

A late Feeney equaliser and contentious penalty decision deep in injury time made it six points out of six over the Christmas period.

The first half of this Christmas contest was hardly a spectacle to enjoy with neither side producing much in the way of action. The visitors looked the more likely to score with the home side misplacing passes and looking off the pace. The referee did little to help proceedings, managing to book seven visiting players and five home players, two each in the first half. However, it was the home side who had the best chance of the opening period when Pitman put a bullet header wide.

HALF TIME 0-0

With only six minutes remaining it seemed unlikely that the home side would get anything from the game. However, a robust Robinson tackle and perfectly timed through ball saw Liam Feeney score for the second game in a row with an excellent first time finish. The visitors looked deflated and the Cherries now looked like the team to go on and win the match. However, the visitors were not beaten yet and only a clearance from Jason Pearce kept the scores level. Heading into the last, and fifth minute, of injury time it was the referee who took centre stage awarding the Cherries a penalty for a foul on Pitman. The Torquay players were incensed and took time to harass Pitman while looking to take the spot-kick. However, Cherries leading marksmen made it 14 goals and 14 wins for the season.
