PEAK 6: New investment, new players for AFC Bournemouth

By -

With a new US investor on-board are AFC Bournemouth about to start spending again. The January transfer window provides the perfect opportunity to bring new blood into the team.

The one question we ask is should AFC Bournemouth buy or loan. If we decide to spend then we will need to spend big to get the players we want. But, at some point this will leave the Cherries with a surplus of talent, that will cost a fortune to keep in wages.

“We need to buy players that can come in and hit the ground running. The question is where do we need to strengthen?”

The alternative is to go down the loan route. While this will save cash on big fees and huge wages it raises another question. Will there really be any players out there that can come in and make an immediate impact in a  Premier League team. Surely the big clubs across Europe have a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The issue is will we be able to find them and then will they want to come and play for a struggling Premier League team.

We think now is the team to invest if we want to stay in the Premier League. We need to buy players that can come in and hit the ground running. The question is where do we need to strengthen? The obvious choice is up front. As soon as the word striker gets a mention inevitably Charlie Austin’s name makes an appearance.

Charlie Austin a proven goalscorer and we have no doubt that he would score goals in an AFC Bournemouth team. In fact, all the signs point to a definite yes. QPR have just sacked their manager and this may well cast doubt over his future. He has worked with Eddie Howe before and we are a Premier League team, something that seems unlikely for QPR currently.

Signing Charlie Austin, is only one part of the striking equation. It still leaves us without a pacy Premier League quality striker. Or, will Josh King prove the perfect foil for Austin. Alternatively, will Rantie’s pace give Austin the opportunities to score. The striking department is not our only concern. What about a new goalkeeper? Boruc and Federici are OK, but could we do better? In defence we need another central defender to cover injuries and out on the wing we could do with a player of Gradel’s class. Pugh is OK, while Stanislas is struggling. If the Cherries had endless pots of cash the decisions would be easy. But where do we most need to strengthen apart from up front?
