The FA Cup has an air of magic about it and the 2013/14 season saw the Cherries finally find themselves in a position where getting past the third round was a real possibility.
First up was the small issue of getting past League Two Burton Albion and this is where the story unfolds. The first match was a wash out, but only after hundreds of Burton fans had made the 200 mile journey.
Cherries fan David Whitehead, decided to start a fundraising page to ensure that the club that had let us celebrate promotion on their pitch, all got back to Dean Court withouth having to raise the coach fare again. A host of Cherries fans raised nearly £3000 to ensure a full Dean Court.
The rescheduled game , on a January Tuesday night, again brought with it the rain, and plenty of it. It was a wet, cold miserable evening , but victory was ours and all those ‘fans’ could now think about getting their Liverpool tickets.
The next round was the big one and for the first time in years AFC Bournemouth had finally been paired up with one of the ‘big boys’. Thousands camped out over night while those who couldn’t get tickets had the opportunity to watch the match live. The Cherries acquitted themselves well, but couldn’t cause an upset that we were all hoping for.
