#AFCB v #BCFC: It’s a push for the play-offs

By -

Birmingham City are another team that haven’t been down to the beautiful sandy shores of the South Coast for a while. The last time we were entertaining the Blues was in the Great Escape season of 1994/95. They were heading for promotion while we were heading for relegation. Yet when we meet they could only manage to get a point off of us in two games. At home we beat them 2-1 with goals from the mighty Steve Jones and Scott Mean. Away from home is was a 0-0 draw with Ian Andrews performing heroics in goal.

Previous to the meeting in 1994/95 it was the 1991/92 season where the Cherries were once again the victors. Away from home is was 1-0 win with a single goal from our favourite ex-manager  Jimmy Quinn. At home Birmingham left once again pointless. Again Jimmy Quinn was on the scoresheet along with the highly-talented and unrated Paul Wood. More of the same please.

AFC Bournemouth old boy offers his thoughts, prediction and words of wisdom for the game

It wasn’t that long ago Birmingham fans were celebrating beating Arsenal in the League Cup. Now look at them struggling to stay in the Championship. They have a very tall Serbian striker and still can’t score goals. I wonder how much he is getting paid a week, £20,000?   If not that much probably more than our strikers.
When they beat us back in December they were on a run, beating us made it three away wins in a row. Not quite so good now are they? But, they did manage to beat bottom of the league Millwall last time out.
I remember there were four old (50’s – that’s older than me) Birmingham fans who celebrated when they scored and got thrown straight out. Wonder if they will be at the game? They won’t be celebrating this time because revenge is going to be ours and I will be celebrating once again with a pork pie and a glass of wine. Not really, I could never be that unfaithful, so it the beautiful Stella as always. Perhaps, I might start drinking win when we reach the Premiership.

PREDICTION: The head-to-head, form guide and stats all point to a Cherries win. While I wouldn’t normally take any notice of the facts in front of me, this time they are right. Birmingham are on a poor run of form and were are on a decent run. How the f**k they won at Dean Court was beyond me. Alright I know the obvious, they scored more goals, but they were awful and if we could finish like we can now then there will definitely be a few goals in the game. And, of course, they will fall the way of the mighty AFC Bournemouth. We are going for a nice and simple Leeds United scoreline, 4-1 to the Cherries. (Warning: remember our predictions are usually wrong).
