A new year brings with it renewed hope and a speculative transfer window that raises the time-honoured question; Who’s coming in and who’s going out?
There’s only one person, who can answer the question with any authority and that is Mr Eddie Howe. But, he is a man who doesn’t like to give much away, so its up to us, the fans, to give Eddie a few pointers (he does read our posts, I’m sure of it :-).
This is easy. Sign Lee Camp permanently. He is a top-quality keeper and this would give us a great trio of keepers. Allsop as first backup and Flavahan as the third choice. This would be mean a final goodbye to the old stalwart Mr Jalal. Its been on the cards for ages and its must surely happen.
We have a good selection of defenders, but is there room for improvement? Of course there is. The first choice five speaks for itself, Daniels, Cook, Ward, Elphick and Francis. But, even in this line-up we reckon we have a weak point in Simon Francis. Don’t get us wrong, we like Francis, he is consistent, has experience, but at Championship level, he gets found out on occasions. He likes to get forward, but he doesn’t have the pace to get back, or on occasions keeps up with opposition strikers.
Lets not consign him to the scrapheap just yet, but its a position where we could strengthen.
Looking towards the bench, there’s not a lot that fills us with joy. Ian Harte, will do a job, and he can strike a lovely free-kick, but he will never be a first team regular. What can we say about Miles Addison? Not a lot. He struggled in League One, has the turning circle and speed of a fully-laden oil tanker and gets caught out too often. Lets say goodbye.
Unfortunately, the transfer window its not just about getting rid of players we don’t want. There are those with more money, or in a better league looking for talent at the right price. Steve Cook, a great player that will undoubtedly, be a target for others, Crystal Palace?
The centre of the park is awash with talent and we really dont need any reinforcement, in our humble opinion. In fact, we have so many a few need to go out on loan, while a certain, Mr Harry Arter could do with some anger management classes. He should look at his central partner O’Kane to see how good he could be.
We have never been big fans of Josh McQuoid, and we would like to see him go, get some cash for him and invest it is a better choice. Alternatively, we would like him to get back to his goal-scoring best, and then we could sell him for even more.
This is an area where most teams will be looking to strengthen and we are no different. Grabban is our best striker and he will stay, but beyond him what’s on offer? Brett Pitman, quality, simply needs to buck up his ideas and show us how good he is on a regular basis.
This leaves us with Tokelo Rantie and Wes Thomas. Our thoughts on Thomas are well-documented, he should go, but Howe, seems keen on keeping him, with another offer from Swindon being turned down. Does this mean that Rantie simply isn’t up to English football and Howe needs a backup striker. We payed a lot of money for him and in return we have one goal. Either play to his strengths or get rid of him. I’m not sure that we would get our money back though.
We still have Jayden Stockley on the books, a tall striker who can head a ball, surely the type of player we are crying out for? What about Supa Fletch? We see Le Fondre might be available, he would be an interesting choice. Forgot to mention Tubbs, he will be back and straight out the door again. We like him, but not so sure he’s ready for life in the Championship, and Eddie Howe seems to dislike him.
We know everyone’s got an opinion on what Eddie Howe should be doing, who he should be getting rid off, who he should be getting in, but in the end none of us get a say in the matter.
Its simple IN EDDIE WE TRUST to bring in the right players. If he doesn’t we, or you, can tell him where he’s going wrong as we know he will be reading this.
