At last, eighteen matches in and the Cherries finally reach the big fat zero in a six goal thriller at fellow deductees Luton Town.
Three goals for and three goals against, it seems there is no happy medium with the Cherries. Score plenty of goals, let plenty in or keep a clean sheet and fail to score.
What is important is a much improved team performance, which hopefully will be transferred onto the pitch against Chester on Saturday. Three points at home and Jimmy Quinn’s tenure will look much more stable.
Grimsby are now only 10 points ahead of the Cherries, effectively seven behind the Cherries but obviously 10 in front due to the deduction. If the same level of perfomance befalls both teams in the next 18 games the Cherries would have 17 points and Grimsby 20. Ten games later the season would be over and the Cherries would have slipped past Grimsby to safety. Of course this is ridiculous speculation, because obviously the Cherries will hit a rich vein of form and storm up to finish a very respectable 19th.
