By -

The Cherries journey into the the Premiership for the very first time means that AFC Bournemouth will be mixing with the English elite on level terms every week.

Here we get ready for the upcoming season with a look at AFC Bournemouth’s head to head record, pick the best fans sites for essential info and five to follow, and banter with, on Twitter. We continue the ‘Premier League we’re having a laugh’ series with CRYSTAL PALACE .

MAR 04th 1989 – DIVISION 2 (OLD)

The last time AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace were same league buddies was back in the Harry Redknapp years. You know, the most successful time in AFC Bournemouth’s history until Eddie Howe came along.

Surprisingly, AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have only ever met in the league, 64 times in fact. Back in 1989 the Cherries were top dogs winning both home and away. November 1988 saw the mighty Cherries pull off a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Trevor Aylott and Mark O’Connor. The return fixture in March 1989 saw the Cherries complete a league double as they ran out 3-2 winners. Thank you Crystal Palace, thank you very much. O’Connor was on the scoresheet again along with big John Williams and little Richard Cooke.

Previous to this it was the 1974/75 season when the two teams met, both scoring 4 goals in the home fixtures. The 4-0 victory at Dean Court saw Howard, Goddard (2) and Payne score.

These 4 games make up a small proportion of the 64 games the Cherries played. All the remaining games coming during the 1963/64 season and before with the first match way back in the 1925/26 season. The away fixture in Dec 1925 saw the Cherries lose 3-1, but revenge was ours in the return fixture as the Cherries crushed Palace 6-1.
