The capture of Tokelo Rantie was big news when he first signed for AFC Bournemouth. He was the man who was going to score a hatful of goals and, maybe, even propel the Cherries into the Premiership.
However, after the hype came the reality and Rantie has struggled to adjust to life in English football. Better players than him have struggled in their first season and he may well need more time to become the player that the manager, and the fans want.
It could be argued that AFC Bournemouth simply do not fit the bill for Rantie. His strengths lie in his speed, which works well on the counter -attack (we will forget the ‘finish’ against Huddersfield). So where does he fit into the Cherries style of play? The few times that he has had the right service he has scored. Could new boy Yann Kermorgant be the perfect partner for the little man? Surely, this is a combination that must be tried.
Eddie Howe needs to get it right and when he does we could well see a string of goals that will set the pulse racing and tongues talking. Lets hope its starts today.
