Local rivals Aldershot came into the game looking to rectify their poor away record. However, its was the Cherries who looked the more likely to score with Igoe and Pitman having speculative long range shots.

The visitors thought they had gone ahead after Morgan rounded Jalal but was rightly flagged offside. Pitman had a half chance as the first period came to a close but couldn’t keep the ball down.

HALF-TIME 0-0

The second half saw the Cherries strike early on with Jason Pearce reaching a Pitman free-kick at the back post and nodding home. The Cherries continued to press and put the game out of sight with Fletcher heading straight at the keeper. Mark Molesley had a goalbound effort well saved by the visting keeper and it wasn’t long before Garry had to be replaced for the second game in a row.

The visitors still continued to press for an equaliser but a quick breakaway from the Cherries nearly saw the home side double its lead. Three more points should have been enough to see the Cherries go top but Dagenham decided to stick five past Shrewsbury and leave the Cherries in second on goal difference.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Jason Pearce – A rock in defence, as usual, and managed to pop up to head home the winner.
