NORTHAMPTON END CHERRIES RUN. Northampton brought to an end the Cherries 100% start to the season with a double strike. The Cherries impresssive start to the season finally hit the bumpers as Northampton scored early and late to seal a 2-0 victory.

The hosts got off to a quick start and were ahead after six minutes when Akinfenwa got in front of Scott Guyett to poke home. The Cherries kept the pressure on and good saves from Molesley and Igoe and a shot onto the bar from Pitman kept the home side ahead.

HALF-TIME 0-1

Out for the second half and the Cherries were straight back at the hosts with Pitman having a weak effort easily saved. It was Pitman again who came closest to equalising after a smart turn and shot. Guyett put a header wide and Molesley tried his luck from range. However, it was the hosts who thought they had doubled the lead, but the goal was ruled offside. Finally, the hosts did get a second with five minutes to after Jalal had parried send home the Cherries with nothing.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Brett Pitman | He still looks like he’s on 3 Pot Noodle’s a day but he is always a constant threat, especially when he gets it right. Unlucky not to score today.
