DANNY HOLLANDS DOUBLE SEALS FIRST HOME WIN OF 2010 | Danny Hollands made it four goals in three games to see off promotion rivals Notts County that sees the Cherries stay second.
The Cherries were quick out of the blocks, intent on making Saturday’s lacklustre performance a distant memory. And it didn’t take long for the home side to get their noses in front as Hollands headed home Wiggins cross after just 90 seconds. With the home side already in the ascendency, leading marksman Pitman went close soon after. Around the quarter of an hour mark Hollands had a shot deflected over the bar, Feeney went close with a thunderous 30 yarder and Bartley was set free only to see his shot saved by Schmeichel’s legs just past the 30 minute mark. The goalkeeper again came to County’s rescue keeping out another Hollands attempt. But, minutes later the midfielder was not to be denied and his shot deflected over the keeper to deservedly put the home side two up.
HALF TIME 2-0
As expected the visitors were a different animal in the second half and were looking for a quick route back into the game. County didn’t have to wait long as Jalal made a superb stop, but no Cherries player was there to pick up rebound. Instead, County striker Bishop drove home the rebound to get the Cherries promotion rivals back in the game. The visitor’s went close to evening up the scores as a free-kick hit the crossbar. Pitman was again in the thick of the action as a free-kick went just over and a long range effort was well-saved by the visiting keeper. County continued to push forward but Jalal was equal to everything they could throw at him as the Cherries finally got their first home win of 2010.
