AFC BOURNEMOUTH 0 ROCHDALE 4: Cherries given lesson in the art of finishing

By -

DALE DISH OUT DRUBBING | The table-topping Cherries got an unwelcome wake-up call as third place Rochdale destroyed the home side with a goal just before half-time and three goals in a torrid ten minute second half spell.

Already 4-0 up Natthan Stanton decides to flatten Marvin Bartley

It was first versus third and the visitors didn’t take long to demonstrate exactly why they were in the automatic promotion places. Early on striker Dagnall ran into the penalty area only to be bundled over by Garry for what was surely a penalty. No, the referee waved play on as he did for most challenges throughout the game. The Cherries then had Jalal to thank for a top drawer save to keep them in the match. Pitman, playing out on the wing, went close with a volley and a well-execured free-kick. Jason Pearce headed home, but the effort was ruled out for offside. With half-time fast approaching Rochdale striker O’Grady nipped in to put the ball over Jalal and the visitors into the lead.

HALF TIME 0-1.

The Cherries can out all guns blazing but only created a few half chances before a classic breakaway combined with poor defending and an excellent finish saw the visitors double their lead. Worse was to follow, as minutes later Rochdale’s Whalley waltzed through the Cherries defence to score again. To cap off a very poor day Bradbury was caught in possession and the nifty Thompson popped over a ball for Rochdale to complete the rout. With minutes left Rochdale’s Nathan Stanton decided to go gung ho and flatten Bartley resulting in a much deserved red card.
