PREMIER LEAGUE WE’RE HAVING A LAUGH #7: A look at Leicester City

By -

The Cherries journey into the the Premiership for the very first time means that AFC Bournemouth will be mixing with the English elite on level terms every week.

Here we get take a look at AFC Bournemouth’s head to head record with the opponents, pick the best fans sites for essential info and five to follow, and banter with, on Twitter. We continue the ‘Premier League we’re having a laugh’ series with LEICESTER CITY.

It’s only a season that separates us. Back in 2013/14 AFC Bournemouth and Leicester City were both in the Championship. At the time we wrote that Leicester were ‘the best team in the league’.

On the day we would say they were good, but not sure that they were worthy winners. In fact, we would say differently and it was thanks to a certain Mr Darren Drysdale that they got the points. We were behind the goal and were convinced it didn’t go in (what else did you think we would say). But we couldn’t see clearly. The video wasn’t any more convincing. Doesn’t matter what we think, it what the ref thinks that matters. Isn’t it Brendan Rogers (we will get over it one day).

What else do we remember? There were a lot of Leicester fans in the home end. Guess there won’t be as many this time, unless they got their priority points. You can read our match report for a more in-depth analysis of the ref and other matters.

The away match was an eventaul occasion as the Cherries went down 2-1 at the King Power stadium. Jamie Vardy had just put Leicester in front and to make the visitors task a little more difficult Elliot Ward was sent off two minutes later. Back them we had Jack Collison and Tokelo Rantie in the line-up.

It was 15 years previous that the two side met. Back in 1989/90 season it was no wins for the Cherries losing 3-2 at home and 2-1 away (there’s that score again). All I remember is what a welcoming bunch the Leicester fans were back in those days. The season before it was two wins out of two, with a 2-1 win at home (that score again) and a 1-0 victory away from home. FASCINTING FACT: Both away games (89/90 & 88/89) were played on Boxing Day.

The 1987/88 season (AFCB had just been promoted) it was away wins for both teams with AFC Bournemouth winning 1-0  and Leicester winning 3-2. Note its those scores again. The only other time the two teams have met was back in the League Cup in 1970, Leicester won 2-0.

Another FASCINATING FACT: There has never been a draw between the two sides and the the score  has been 2-1 or 1-0 in 6 of the 9 meetings between the two clubs. Let’s hope for a 2-1 victory come 5pm Saturday.
