On Saturday 8th August 2015 AFC Bournemouth will make history as they step on to the Dean Court turf for the first time ever as a top flight team.
The Cherries rise from the very depth of the Football League is hardly a new story, but it is truly a special one. Eddie Howe has slowly built a team that has grown, improved and taken every challenge head on. The next step is undoubtedly a big one and central defender Steve Cook has been a rock at the back since joining back in 2012.
He joined when Lee Bradbury was at the helm, but it wasn’t long before he was replaced by youth team manager Paul Groves. After football worthy of Jimmy Quinn Cook finally got to work with Eddie Howe. He has seen it all in his years at AFCB. Here he looks forward to life in the Premier League.
Q. LAST SEASON’S CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON WAS PRETTY SPECIAL. WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT?
My personal highlight from last year apart from the last 2 games was Brighton away. Even though we weren’t at our best we got the job done, and to keep a clean sheet against my former team was also nice.
Q. WHICH PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYER ARE YOU REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING AGAINST? AND, DO YOU RECKON YOU WILL GET THE BETTER OF THEM ON THE DAY?
It’s hard to name just one player but probably Aguero. I think he’s the best striker in the league so it’ll be good to come up against a player of his ability. Yeah I’d like to think we as a team and personally can cope.
“I’d love to beat Liverpool at Anfield, especially on a Monday night. The atmosphere will be special”
Q. WHICH TEAM WOULD YOU REALLY LIKE TO GET ONE OVER DURING OUR DEBUT SEASON IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE?
I’d love to beat Liverpool at Anfield, especially on a Monday night. The atmosphere will be special and to win at a place like that would be amazing.
Q. IT’S GOODBYE FOOTBALL LEAGUE SHOW AND HELLO MATCH OF THE DAY. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING YOURS AND THE TEAM PERFORMANCE SCRUTINISED EVERY WEEK BY LINEKER, SHEARER, KEOWN, SAVAGE AND THE REST?
To be on Match of the Day is every boys dream I think. It’s an iconic show and to be analysed by the likes of Shearer and Lineker is something I’m looking forward to. Hopefully it won’t be to bad but I’m sure over the 38 games there could be a few shows I don’t tune into ha ha.
Q. WE’RE ALREADY FAVOURITES TO GO DOWN AT THE BOOKIES (WHAT DO THEY KNOW). YOU MUST BELIEVE WE WILL STAY UP. WHERE DO YOU THINK WE WILL FINISH?
Nobody has spoken about relegation. We’re looking forward to every challenge. We’re looking well in training and in the games that’s we’ve played. I think we will finish 14th and surprise a lot of people.
