VIDEO: The Great Escape 1994/95

By -

The Great Escape of 1994/95 was one of the most memorable seasons in the club’s history. After a dismal start things picked up and a second half of the season saw championship winning form and one of the best ends to a season ever with victory over Brentford and Shrewsbury.

Personal memories include losing to Hull at home 3-2, all the goals in the first half, getting thrashed 4-1 by York, losing to Wrexham 3-1 (think the goalie got sent off), Adrian Pennock scoring the winner against Swansea, another 3-2 scoreline, drawing 1-1 with Chester and a cracking goal from Chris Leadbitter (?), beating Birmingham at home 2-1 and getting a 0-0 draw away from home with Ian Andrews in fine form.

Another memorable result was losing at home to Brighton, on a rain-soaked day, where me and a couple of mates decided to stand behind the goal and take the piss out of Nicky Rust, the Brighton keeper, for a whole half of the game. Obviously, a pointless task as he didn’t let anything in that day.

Surely, its time that someone wrote a book about this season. Any takers??
