ATT: 7869 | REF: Whitestone | HALF-TIME: 0-1

4 mins | WAYNE BROWN | Bristol Rovers

A neat ball from the  halfway line was diverted by Shaun Cooper directly into the path of  Wayne Brown whose shot sneaked under Shwan Jalal and over the line for a fortunate early lead for the visitors.  AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Bristol Rovers

84 mins | MICHAEL BAUDRY | AFC Bournemouth

It took the Cherries until the infamous ten minutes to go scenario to score. A corner from Warren Cummings was powered home by substitute Micheal Baudry who rose unopposed in the box to head down past the keeper.  AFC Bournemouth 1-1 Bristol Rovers

88 mins | STEVE FLETCHER | AFC Bournemouth

A quick-thinking through ball from Adam Smith saw Danny Ings pick up the ball in space, sliding the ball under the advancing Rovers keeper. However, the faintest touch from the keeper ensured the ball came back to Danny Ings who crossed into the box for ‘Supa’ to somehow shin home the winner.  AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Bristol Rovers

LEE BRADBURY gives his reaction:

“The character the lads showed in the second half was there for everybody to see. “(Bristol Rovers) are very fragile at the moment, fighting for their lives, I knew that if we scored everyone would get behind us and give us that self belief. “(Mathieu Baudry) is a very enthusiastic player… that was his chance today and he grabbed it… not only did he score the equaliser but he did well on the ball too.”

I knew that if we scored everyone would get behind us and give us that self belief.

“We’re absolutely devastated to have lost the game. We were excellent from start to finish, passed the ball very well and created numerous chances to get the second and third goal. “Unfortunately we couldn’t do that and when you don’t you leave yourself open to a comeback like Bournemouth staged. “I don’t know how but somehow we’re still in with a very, very good chance of staying up and I firmly believe we can do that.”

The AFC Bournemouth late show couldn’t disguise a relatively poor performance. The first-half was a succession of misplaced passes, dithering defending and all-round sloppy play. If Bristol Rovers could finish they could have at least doubled their advantage. At least Lee Bradbury realised that the current line-up wasn’t working and replaced the ineffectual Lovell with the slightly less ineffectual Harry Arter. The general play was still pretty poor until Baudry came on, didn’t seem like a good move at the time, and started to help the midfield and eventually got the equaliser that the Cherries deserved. However,  scoring another didn’t seem that likely, but up popped the old man himself to bundle home the ball and get revenge for Rovers undeserved win at home.

As for Danny Hollands, what can we say? He perfectly illustrated Bradbury’s point about being immature.  Had he managed to stay on the pitch the Cherries afternoon might have been a lot easier and now he will be banned for the next game.
