Three goals in the opening 20 minutes put paid to any hopes of a result for the Cherries.
It took the hosts less than three minutes to take the lead with a threaded pass. The second came ten minutes later with Jalal given no chance as the ball deflected past him. The third and last goal of the game came in the 20th minute with an unstoppable thunderbolt, from 20 yards, that hit the top corner of the net. New signing Symes shot inches wide.
The second half saw an improved Cherries performance with a number of chances for Goulding, Anderton and Pearce. Quinn will not be happy with this distinctly lacklustre showing and with Grimsby winning the Cherries are now 12 points adrift of safety.
